Coastal Dog Owner's Group

Volunteer for Capitola Dogs

We need volunteers like you out in the community to take action! C-Dog coordinates activities to help bring the community together, for fun, networking and to provide better places to play for dogs and their owners. Besides cleaning up after your own dog, we need community '"watchdogs" to help raise awareness that the temporary nature of the dog areas could be jepordized if we do not all pitch in. Here are some roles that need your consideration. Please contact us if you are interested in one of these tasks or are willing to work to implement an idea of your own. Contact dogs@capitola.com for information on Peer Patrol, Clean-up Angel, Team Leader, Village Committee, Writer or Activist

PEER PATROL

Every dog owner can do Peer Patrol on their regular dog walks. Peer Patrol will go out into the Capitola community on a regular basis and check up on specific dog areas such as Hooper's Beach, Rispin Mansion, Peery Park, or other parks etc. for clean-up status. The Patrol might pick up any pile they find, pass out plastic bags, ask a dog owner to clean up, make a note if there is abuse of the dog rules and report to C-DOG by email or phone that a bag dispenser needs to be filled or a clean-up needs to be planned for a certain area. This task will work in nicely with a regular dog walk. The Patrols should coordinate areas covered with C-DOG team leaders to make sure there is good coverage. Estimated time 10 - 30 minutes two or three times a week. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

GUARDIAN ANGELS

Clean-up Angels will go out in teams or even on their own and help to clean up areas (even tourist areas!) as needed. Estimated time 1- 2 hours once a month or on a regular basis during regular walks. Team up with a friend and make it fun! Coordinate with C-DOG to cover a specific territory or events. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

TEAM LEADER
Team leaders would plan and execute the events that C-DOG decides to plan. The events may be workshops or seminars on training, behavior and responsible dog ownership or clean-up days. The team leader will be working with the community as well as with top trainers and veterinarians in the area. They would be responsible for recruiting help for successful events. Estimated time is 3 - 5 hours for each event or more if the volunteer sees fit. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

VILLAGE MASTER PLAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
A liason is needed to attend the committee meeting and contact city planning to request low drinking fountains in the village for dogs. Research on the options or the cost of the fountain needs to be done to prepare for the committee meeting. Follow up will be required to make sure that the fountain, if approved, is placed in an appropriate place. Estimated time required 4 - 8 hours or more as the volunteer sees fit. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

WRITER
Newsletter journalists will be interviewing experts and doing the research to write articles for the web, bulletin board, email and if budgeted a printed newsletter. Estimated time 4-5 hours per article or more if the volunteer sees fit. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

C-DOG ACTIVISTS/STEWARDS

Activist will plan and organize attendees for the Capitola City Council meetings. Activist would also attend meetings in the County of Santa Cruz that pertain to dog issues and dog parks as the Capitola liason. Estimated time required 2 - 5 hours per meeting depending on preparation needed and the length of the meeting. Contact: dogs@capitola.com

MAKE A SUGGESTION

Think of something else? Feel free to make a suggestion or provide constructive feedback and be prepared to help implement your idea. The group is an ad hoc team of community members that are volunteering to create great dog play spaces in Capitola. Contact: dogs@capitola.com or read these pages for more information.
