Dog Beach Update
Capitola
Dog Owners Group (C-DOG) |
September
29, 2000 Update
At the September 28th meeting the City Council gave direction to the city
staff to proceed in setting up a task force to make recommendations on
allowing dogs on the beach at Hooper's
Beach (to the right of the wharf) during the limited hours before
10 AM and after 5 PM for a limited test period during the off season.
The
biggest concern is whether dog owners will clean up after their dogs.
If so, the doggie beach hours will be sucessful, if not, no beach for
dogs.
Here's
what you can do to help:
Sign
the Petition and
have your neighbors sign it too.
Keep
It Clean. Clean up every single time you see a pile.
Peer
Patrol - Just be nice & pass out plastic bags
Pass
the word! Educate, talk to & email dog owners to be responsible,
let people know that 460 communities in
the US (over 80 in California)
have created dog parks, so can we.
Vaccinate
& license your dog
Participate
in Clean Up Days (weekends monthly for
an hour or so).
Learn
more about dog behavior, training & socialize your dog
Attend
our meetings and free seminars
Be
vigilant & stay informed about progress. Stay tuned to Capitola.com

Your encouragement makes this worthwhile
:-)

The city is creating
a committee to oversee the dog beach. The committee will have some citizen
oversight and the mayor, Bruce Arthur, a dog supporter, will also be on
the committee. The committee's job will be to:
Hear
public input & incorporate concerns into new dog ordinances.
Re-write
the city's ordinance which currently prohibits dogs on the beach.
Create
rules for the beach and other dog accessible areas.
Oversee
the creation and installation of signs and poop bag
dispensers & other ammenities, as needed.
Review
dog access to other beaches and the parks.
Check
back for further updates. Thank you for supporting Capitola Dog Owners!
