C-DOG!
Capitola Dog Owners Group

Responsible
dog ownership begins with the right equipment.
Seriously,
preparing Capitola beach for tourist season implies some major
costs. Dog owners will need to come together and create a community
in order to marshall the resources that tourists and sports groups
have. Dog
owners deserve a piece of the 'park pie' and the 'beach pie' budget
just as these other groups have. C-DOG
is calling for open parks and beaches for responsible dog owners.
The city council responded positively, setting a new precedent
for Santa Cruz County.

C-DOG!
Capitola Dog Owners Group
At
the September 28th, 2000 Capitola City Council meeting we were able
to present over 550 signatures on a petition supporting dog beaches
and parks. The City Council unanimously supported more liberal
dog access in Capitola, specifically access to Hooper's
Beach and the formation of a dog advisory committee. This speed
of acceptance and action is unprecedented in Santa Cruz County government
with respect to dogs. The committee's charge is also to suggest locations
and limitations for dog owners to play with their dogs and to suggest
changes in code to allow dog owners to walk their dogs in city parks,
which is now prohibited.
The biggest concerns
were cleanup and control. C-DOG is now being formed to meet the
request of the city council to:
Dog
Park Site
The dog park site that was under study at the Monterey Ave/ Bay Ave
intersection has several issues: proximity to neighbors and roads, also
the property was given to the city with development restrictions. The
city council asked the committee to continue to study access to the
existing parks, other beaches and the creation of a dog park. The
committee will be formed within the next couple of weeks and we hope
to execute as quickly as we can.
C-DOG
Statement of Purpose
We will strive to make life better for Capitola dogs, their owners and
the citizens of Capitola. We will support Santa Cruz County residents
in efforts to create more dog access locally.
The
group will provide feedback to the Capitola City Dog Advisory Committee
on the formulation of new policies that will help create a Dog Friendly
Capitola.
We
will encourage responsible dog ownership. We will provide informative
seminars and news to the community about dog events, training and tips
on our web site, in press releases and in Capitola locations.

needed! The clean up days will help demonstrate our serious intent to
participate in the community process to create dog access to public
areas. Its a great way to meet other dog owners and to let us know what's
on your mind. Please come for an hour or two and help out. Bring a shovel
and a garbage bag. Your dog will appreciate it!
Let
us know if you can make it to the cleanup gathering! We'll try to
round up tools & refreshments for everyone.
