Missing
pet poster tips
Millions of pets
go missing every year in the United States alone. Missing pet posters
are the best way to recover a lost animal.
What to put
on your poster
Heading:
"Lost Dog," for example, in large, legible lettering.
Description: Basic
details include breed, color, eye color, size, gender, age, markings,
etc. Withhold a few details to verify that any caller claiming to
have recovered your pet is not trying to scam reward money.
Name: Some
people advise not to reveal the name of your pet. A pet thief could
gain the trust of your pet with this information.
Tags: The
type of collar, tags, microchip, tattoo, etc.
Time and location:
Where was your pet lost, and how?
Contact information:
Your name and a phone number, but not your address.
Photograph:
Include a picture of your pet, or of an animal that looks like yours.
Full body is best.
Reward:
Rewards will motivate people to take time to look in their garage
or shed, but don't list the amount - it may be perceived as inadequate.
If the reward is large, you may get callers trying to scam the money
out of you. Consider writing "Reward when recovered".
